Learn more →The Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development of Colombia is the national government entity responsible for formulating, implementing and guiding public environmental policy, in order to guarantee the conservation of the country's natural heritage and its sustainable development. Its work covers the protection of ecosystems, the integrated management of water, air, soil and biodiversity, as well as the prevention and control of environmental pollution. The Ministry coordinates with regional environmental authorities, public institutions, social organizations and the private sector to promote the sustainable use of natural resources, address the effects of climate change and foster environmental education and awareness. It also leads the implementation of Colombia's international environmental commitments, such as the Paris Agreement and the Convention on Biological Diversity. Its key functions include regulating protected areas, waste management, evaluating environmental licenses and promoting the circular economy and clean energy. Through its policies, the Ministry seeks to balance economic growth with environmental protection, guaranteeing the well-being of present and future generations. Its headquarters are located in Bogotá.
