As the highest administrative authority of the department in the Colombian Caribbean, the departmental government is in charge of the political and economic management of the island department of San Andrés, Providencia and Santa Catalina. Its headquarters are on the island of San Andrés, from where it exercises authority over the island territory as well as the cays, banks and shoals that make up the archipelago.
The departmental government works together with the national government, other entities and the community to guarantee the well-being and sustainable development of the Archipelago of San Andrés, Providencia and Santa Catalina. It is a public organization created by the Constitution and the Law, with autonomy to generate, receive and manage resources under the principles of equality, morality, effectiveness, efficiency, economy, speed, impartiality, publicity and transparency.
At the service of the inhabitants of the territory, it seeks to improve their quality of life, promote harmonious and sustainable development, guarantee citizens' rights and promote the fulfillment of their duties. By 2032, the Government of the Department of the Archipelago of San Andrés, Providencia and Santa Catalina will be the engine of harmonious and sustainable development of the Islands, with a native, participatory and inclusive culture.
